Siida

Siida is a word used by the Sami people in the northern parts of Sweden and Norway.  It so simply names a concept that I've been grasping at for years. Siida has official implications in Sami governance, but at a base level, it describes a community. As it was described to me by a Sami descendent, it takes its etymological roots from the word for burial ground. It linguistically grounds people in the sites of their ancestors' deaths.
